Francis Sill was born in County Durham, England.

Francis Sill, son of Francis and Dorothy, was baptised at St Nicholas, Durham on 19 Jun 1808. [1] On 19 Jun 1808 Francis Sill, born 9 Mar, son of Francis Sill (labourer, native of Durham) & Dorothy his wife late Robinson (native of Houghton le Spring) at Durham City, St Nicholas.

He married Sarah Carr at Stockton-on-Tees on 31 Mar 1835. He was single at the time he married. [2]

In 1861 he was a Master, aged 53. His wife Sarah, was aged 50 of Stockton, Durham. Also at home was his son Francis, aged 20 and born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire. [3]

Inquest held 25 Nov 1881 found that he suffocated in the mud
of the Graving Dock whilst in a fit.
Owner of "Rapid" Number 27365. Built in N. Shields. Gross tonnage 58.
Frabcis had 48 of 64 shares. His son Francis had 16 of 64 shares. Francis lived in
Commercial St. M'bro at time of his ownership.
Owner of Steam Vessel "Pilot" built North Shields 1848.
By 23 May 1870 it was then owned by Thomas Hugh Bell.
