William Sill was born in County Durham, England.

William was born in Ryhope, County Durham, England, in 1846. He was the son of Simon Sill and Elizabeth Robson. He was enumerated in the 1851 and 1861 census residing with his parents in Durham.

William married Jane Prest in 1871. The marriage was registered in the first quarter in Easington, Durham. the couple would have at least twelve children. William and Jane were enumerated in the 1881 through 1911 census residing in several locations in Durham.. William stated his occupation as "Coal Miner" or "Hewer Below Ground" in each census.

William passed away in 1911. His death was registered in the second quarter in Durham, Durham.
