Biography

Joseph Greer married 2) 18 October 1713 to Susannah Silsbee.[1]

""The eldest son must have had a different mother from the other children, for there is a lapse of eighteen years between the eldest and second child and the youngest is thirty-two years younger than the eldest."[2]>

  • "Children
  1. Joseph II, born October 17, 1692, died May 19,1718, and his estate was administered by his father[2]
  2. Keziah, February 23, 1710[2]
  3. Sarah, September 17, 1712[2]
  4. Benajah, May 31, 1714[2]
  5. Joseph III, May 29, 1719[2]
  6. Silas, March 26, 1722[2]
  7. Ezra, May 16, 1724 "[2]

Cutter's point seems to be valid, but the birth dates of Keziah and Sarah do not seem to agree with the supposed date of Joseph's marriage to Susannah Silsbee in 1713. The link to the source for Susannah is either broken or requires a paid subscription making it unviewable to many (most?) researchers. Benajah, Joseph II, Silas and Ezra must belong to another wife than Sarah if her death occurred in 1713 as stated. Joseph I's birthdate supports Joseph Sr.'s marriage date to Sarah Howard. Is it reasonable to assume that Keziah and Sarah are the daughters of Sarah Howard, suggested by the naming of the child Sarah after her mother? (would Susannah approve of naming a daughter of hers after the former wife of Joseph Sr., or is this modern day thinking?) Should the gap between Joseph I and daughters Keziah and Sarah be ignored and assume they are all three Sarah Howard's children? Could they be children from a prior marriage of Susannah's, step-children to Joseph? A lot of questions here. Beardsley-386 17:43, 27 June 2015 (EDT)
