Biography

Sarah was born in 1873. She is the daughter of Richard Simmons and Jane Brock. ^[1] Sara Jane Simmons, daughter of Willis R. and Jane'Brock' Simmons, was born December 31, 1873 and died February 26, 1941, according to the marker at her grave and according to family records. She married David Aquilla Gulledge who was born July 4, 1868 and died February 8, 1933. They are buried i n the old family cemetery with her father .Sara Jane and Quill a live d i n the Simmonsville Community (Between Simmonsville and Silver Creek Church). They had five children: ^[2]

l. Willis Gulledge, b. September l895. W. Emmett Gulledge, born September 14, 1895, married Muriel Ellzey . They lived on the old home place

2. Gussie Angie Gulledge, b. October 3l, l898; d. April 2l, l927; married A. E. Reid. Four days after her marriage, she was killed i n an automobile accident. She is buried at the Silver Creek Church cemetery.

3. Julian J . (Jim) Gulledge, born September 7, 1900, married May McDaniel. They live i n Baton Rouge, Louisiana and have four children:

(a) David Aquilla (D. A.) married Patsy Simmons, daughter of Milton Simmons. They liv e i n Baton Rouge and have two children David and John Michael, born July 21, 1954.

(b) Evelyn married .

(c) Jewell live s i n New Orleans, Louisiana,

(d) Rosemary Is at home with her parents.

4. Wallace S. Gulledge, born September 4, 1903, has been connected with the Buhrman-Pharr Hardware Company, Texarkana, Arkansas for 28 years. He married (1) Irma Lee Champion and there was one gir l born to this marriage:

(a) Jane Marilyn Gulledge, born September 22, 1928, married John R. Jurey of Washington, D. C. They have one son—John Michael,

Wallace married (2) Cordelia Adeline Murphy and he has two girl s by this second marriage:

(b) Carol Elizabeth Gulledge, bom January 2, 1934, married

Iman William Otwell and they have one girl Martha Lynn,

(c) Sue Ann Gulledge, born October 17, 1936, has just graduated from high school.

5 Lucy Gulledge born January 23, 1912 married Glenn Brock. They lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. ^[3]
