These children were orphaned. Eli (aged 2 1/2) died two days before Thos & Mary [twins] were born. Elizabeth [wife of Wilson] died Mar 1847, a month after Thos & Mary were born. Wilson died two years later, 22 Mar 1849. The children were split up. Oran and Wm grew up in east Texas; Joe, Thos & Mary in LA [Simmons2.ged]

In 1770 Thomas Simmons was born, and later married Laney Wilson of Scotch descent, and to this union was born Wilson B simmons in 1812. Wilson later married Elizabeth Thompson, also born in 1812. To this unionwas born the following 5 sons and a daughter. Thomas and Laney Simmons moved to Louisiana about 1800 so that the children of Wilson and Elizabeth Simmons together with their parents, were all natives of Louisiana. Wilson B Simmons made several trips into Texas, before and during the days of the Republic of Texas, and died on the east bank of theSabine River while enroute to Texas to establish a home in 1847. Records show that his brother Joseph, had taken a grant of land in what isnow Coryell County in 1838. The children of Wilson B. Simmons were reared in Trinity and Liberty counties Texas, but upon the outbreak of the Civil War enlisted with Louisiana volunteers to serve the Confederacy.
