Biography

According to the info furnished by Michelle Wiseman and Anita McCray, Mel is Melmuth P. Simmons b. 1823 d. 9/20/1863 at the Battle of Chicamauga. His wife was Mary Eubanks and as of the 1860 Census they had 7 children. One of the children was Melvina Simmons b. 1852 that matches with the wife of James Newton Cockrum, who was my great grandfather.

1860 census of Beaver Valley, st. clair Cty, AL gives Elizabeth (Etha) b. 1850, Margaret b. 1855, Aty (Ada) b.1859, May cattie b. 1860, Melvina b. 1852, George b. 1857, and Mary Catherine b. 1860. It also has wife, Mary, b. 1830. Michelle Wiseman found info that says her maiden name was Eubanks. She also found info that says his name was Melmuth P. Simmons b. 1823 and d. 9,20 1863 in Chattanooga, Tennessee at the battle of Chickamauga.
