Dear Mr Norman,
Thank you for your email dated 1st August regarding your ancestor Thomas Simmons. I have found out further details about him within later House Lists (series ref: E20). He began at the Bank in November 1849 and is recorded as working as a Vellum Binder until he was pensioned on 19th April 1894. He is listed as a Bank pensioner up until 1912 (it seems he died before the 1913 lists were published). For your information, and seemingly by coincidence, another Thomas Simmons also worked in the Printing/mechanics department from Feb 1853 until 1892 (when he was pensioned); he last appears in theHouse Lists in 1898.
In answer to your original enquiry, I have managed to find an entry for a Frederick Simmons. According to the House Lists, he worked as a Vellum Binder from November 1863 until 27th February 1896 (when he was pensioned, aged 69.) He last appears as a Bank pensioner in the 1907 House Lists.
I hope this further information is of use to you.
Yours sincerely,
Ben White
