Biography

Catherine (Simmons) Fox was born in Surrey, England.

Catherine (Simmons) Fox was a Latter Day Saint pioneer.

Catherine Sophia Simmons was born on 7 July 1850, She was the daughter of Henry Simmons and Catherine Davies. Herame= birth was registered in the Jul-Aug-Sep quarter of 1850 in the Saint Mary Magdalen Bermondsey Surrey district.^[1]

In 1851, Catherine was living with her parents and older sister, Margaret, in Long Lane, Bermondsey, Surrey. Catherine's father was a labourer. ^[2]

At age 5, she emigrated on the ship Caravan from Liverpool England and arrived on 27 March 1856 in New York. Catharine Simmons (5) [transcribed incorrectly as "Simons"] traveled wth her parents Henry (29) and Catherine (26) and siblings Margaret (7) and Hannah (1).^[3]

Her family traveled on the Mormon Trail from Iowa to Utah in a handcart train of the Israel Evans Company.

In 1857, Catherine emigrated to the United States with her parents and siblings. ^[4]

In 1860, Catherine was seen on the US census in Salt Lake Utah Territory. She was with her parents and three sisters, one of which was born in Utah. She was 10 years-old.^[5]

Catherine Sophia (Simmons) Fox died at age 64 on 11 February 1915 and was buried in plot 32_4_5 at Lehi City Cemetery, Lehi, Utah, Utah.^[6]

Her son Joseph Roy Fox died at age 80 of atheroschlerotic heart disease (2 years) on 15 January 1961 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, where he had resided for 17 years at 437 Debs Place; he was bured in Lehi City Cemetery, Lehi, Utah, Utah. He was married to Laura Page (Keetch) Fox.^[7]

Catherine married Isaac Wilson Fox on 31 May 1869 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah. ^{[citation needed]}

They had seven children:

1. Daughter Margaret Ann (Fox) Clark (1870-1943) Margaret was born on 3 April 1870 in Lehi. At age 28, she married Thomas H. Clark on 22 February 1888, and they six sons and three daughters. She died of a heart ailment at 73 on 28 July 1943 in Lehi.
2. Daughter Mary Ellen (Fox) Hales (1872-1958) was born on 1 March 1872 at Lehi, Utah. She married Stephen Alexander Hales. She died at age 15 August 1958 at Salt Lake City, Utah.
3. Son Jesse Washington Fox (1874-1963) was born 22 February 1874 at Lehi, Utah. He married Mary P. (Powell) Fox. He died about 3 April 1963.
4. Daughter Lucy (Fox) Whitman (1875-1865) was born 29 September 1875 in Lehi, Utah. She married George Henry Whitman. She died on 8 December 1865 at Lehi, Utah.
5. Son Eli Fox (1876-1865) was born on 28 December 1876. He married Juliett Prestwich and they had 12 children. He died on 28 December 1865 in American Fork, Utah, Utah.
6. Daughter Sarah (Fox) Beck (1878-1953) was born 12 November 1878 in Lehi. She married Alma Beck, and they had 1 child. She died 8 January 1953 in Lehi.
7. Son Joseph Roy Fox (1880-1961) was born in 23 September 188n Lehi. He married Laura Elizabeth Fage and Annie Sophia (Hutchings) Fox. He died 15 January 1961 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah.

Catherine's husband was mentioned in the record of their son Joseph's marriage in 1936.^[8]

Catherine died on 11 February 1915 in Lehi, Utah, United States. Her obituary was reported in the American Fork Citizen newspaper in Utah on 20 February that year and mentioned her parents and her husband.^[9]

Catherine Sophia (Simmons) Fox was buried on 13 February 1915 in the Lehi City Cemetery in Lehi, Utah. ^[10]
