Biography

Addie was born January 4th 1911. and helped cook for her brothers and sisters growing up. She also learned to sew clothing. She married Albert Bartz in Texas, and they moved with their two children, Roy and Connie to Long Beach California. Albert enjoyed buying properties and fixing them up, and moving. Addie didn't agree and they divorced. She was always remembered by all of her grandchildren, (two by son Roy, and 3 by her daughter Connie). with making biscuits from scratch, pancakes, chocolate cake and more. I can't find the marriage certificate and divorce certificate with our grandpa Albert. Addie later married Dan A McMullen. Marriage Date 30 May 1959 in Los Angeles, California, USA McMullenThey had no children together. He worked in oil and she traveled with him to the middle east. They also divorced and Addie worked as a domestic with a family when they adopted 2 children from South Korea. She later went to work at a dude ranch with her son Roy in Arizona, and after this, she became ill and came to live at her daughter's home. She lived with Connie and her daughter's husband Hal Norton and three of her grandchildren. She died at only 52 years old of lung cancer.

Addie was listed in the 1930 Census. [1]

Memories: 1
Enter a personal reminiscence or story.
Our grandmother Addie was hardworking, and our earliest memories were of her sewing dresses for the 3 of us, (Connie's girls), making home made biscuits and pancakes for us. Since she was one of the older children, as told by our mother, she would cook and feed the younger kids in the very large blended family, (Simmons and Moon kids). She was close with her mother Minnie, sister, brother, and 1/2 sisters, as well as all the Simmons and Bartz cousins. Since her sister and she both married Bartz brothers, our cousins were close. Sadly, Addie passed away at only 52 years old of lung cancer. We remember her seeing angels crossing the room in front of her bed, and talking with relatives that had passed before her. It is believed the young death of our grandmother, and later our grandfather was a result of working with asbestos in the shipyards during WWII. I also remember visiting with her when she worked on a dude ranch with her son Roy in Arizona, and she also worked taking care of adopted twins baby girls from Korea for a couple. I don't remember the specific years. We still think of her often, as all of the Simmons, lots of laughs and fun.
