Biography

We all knew our great grandfather's name was Plennie Simmons, so we did have a familial source for this growing up. Our cousins in Texas after matching with our DNA, then comparing notes with our cousins here in California, we were able to verify and we filled in some of the information regarding Plennie's father and mother Florence Parasede Phillips who had died early. Their son Armanta took care of the younger children when she, Para died. We learned this from our Texas cousins and it is shown that they lived with him in the census. We were finally able to verify on Ancestry regarding this Thomas as the father of these children listed. First we matched dna with all of the children of Plennie and his 3 sisters. We then had proof of the matches of the children of this Thomas father, and his wife Rachel Sweat, as we have also matched dna with all but one, Bird/Byrel Simmons. First we found the match with Mary (married Corner) and continued to fill in the DNA matches of the various children between all of us here in California and Texas.

Thomas was born between 1852 and 1855 per two Census, 1860 and 1880. Thomas Simmons, son of Thomas Simmons and Rachel Sweat.

His home listed as 1860 and 1870: Precinct 8, Polk, Texas.

Hi is listed in 1880 with wife Florence Parasedes Phillips and sister Mary, in Grimes, Texas. his marriage shows Florence name as Para, (her middle name Parasede). He and Florence are noted on the death certificate of Elizabeth C, (Cornelius) daughter Edna was born in 1889, his death would have been around or after this date.
