Biography

Benjamin was born about 1777 in South Carolina. His parents moved to Livingston County, Kentucky about 1798, settling along the Tradewater River.

After his marriage 5 March 1808 in Livingston County, Kentucky, he and Mary G. Roberson stayed in Kentucky a few years. It then appears they spent a few years in Missouri, where several of Benjamin's siblings lived. By 1817, they had land in what became Sangamon County, Illinois. The winter of 1829-1830 was especially harsh there, and by 1832 this Simpson family was back in Missouri. The land in Sangamon County was sold in 1832.

The children of Benjamin and Mary were William, Ruth, Nancy, Samuel, Daniel, James, Benjamin, and Maryann.

He died in 1853 in Osage County, Missouri.

• 1840 Federal Census - Gasconade County, Missouri. There are no fewer than five Benjamins Simpson on this census. This man is likely the oldest one. The youngest one is likely his son born 1821. two others are nephews. The fifth may not have even been related.
• April 1842-April 1843, Osage County, Missouri. Benjamin Simpson was involved in the estate settlement for Samuel Robertson, who was both his father-in-law and his uncle.
• Gasconade County (Missouri) Will Book D, entry dated 11 May 1843. Benjamin Simpson was involved in a deal whereby a Thomas Branson was purchasing land that had been his father-in-law's. Said Father-in-Law was Dr. Daniel Simpson, Benjamin's brother who had died July 1838.
• Osage County (MIssouri) Book C, page 460: On 8 February 1845, Benjamin Simpson purchased 53 and 34ths acres of land from Barnet Boulware and Elizabeth his wife. This appears to be the same land that his daughters-in-law, Sarah Pryor (Mrs. Samuel Simpson) and Elizabeth Pryor (Mrs. Daniel Simpson), along with their sister Agnes had sold to the Boulwares as a part of settling their fathers' estate.
• 27 June 1848, Benjamin and Mary Simpson sold 71 and 17/100 acres of land in Osage COunty, south of the Gasconade river, to John Williams.
• 1850 Federal Census - Osage County, Missouri. The aging Benjamin and Mary Simpson were living with their son, William Simpson.
