Biography

Research Notes

Deed: (Part of the abstract) Book "A", Page 212. No.96 -- John Watts to John W. Simpson. 50 acres. This indenture made and entered into this 13th day of January 1830, between John Watts, of County of Wayne, and the State of Kentucky, of the one part, and John W. Simpson, of the County of Fentress, and the State of Tennessee, of the other part. etc:---lying and being in the County of Fentress, and the State of Tennessee, on Watts Creek, the waters of Wolf River, containing fifty acres, granted by the State of Kentucky to the said John Watts, by grant No.850. Etc---I have checked the U.S. Censuses:1820 Thomas Simpson and a Winney Simpson with Watts and Crabtrees in very close proximity to Winney. Thomas is not found there on the next census but Winney is along with her now-adult children, John W. Simpson as one of them. My unproved conclusion being, Winney may be nee: Watts and one of her female offspring is wife to one of the Crabtrees. I believe the 1820 Thomas Simpon removed to MI and later to KS and John W. Simpson continued to reside in Fentress Co. John W. Simpson, born VA had a son,, born in TN, who later removed to MO and then to California. There is also an Ohio connection. Two of John W. Simpsons' brothers, Braxton and Job both were born in Ohio as well as John W. Simpson's wife Sarah. There is also a brother by the name of Jonathon and I believe this also may connect them to the Patriot, (John) Jonathon Simpson found in Ross Co., OH after the Revolutionary War, and the VA land Warrant that was issued.
