On my mother's side of the family, at the turn of the nineteenth century in New South Wales Australia, my great x 4 grandfather Christopher William Harris was born to William Harris an Englishman and his wife Charlotte. At 25 years of age he would start a family habit that continues to this day? it's called "crossing the ditch", and he would move to the northern reaches of Aotearoa (New Zealand), marry a high-born Maori woman from the Northland region named Te Auparo ll and begin a dynasty that today numbers many thousands of people who inhabit every part of Aotearoa and other parts of the world. It becomes more complicated when his great grandaughter Taingunguru (Nguru) Moana Tipene marries Martinus Willemus Jensen from Furreby in the Hjorring district of Northern Denmark to create yet another dynasty within a dynasty.

On my father's side of the ancestral tree, my great grandfather Bruce Simpson emigrated from Coupar Angus in Perthshire, Scotland to the Bay of Plenty. There he marries Kerara Werahika, a Ngati Awa woman from Whakatane in the Bay of Plenty and produces two sons, one is my grandfather John Maketu Simpson and his brother George Niao Simpson.

John Simpson married Meri Te Urikore Wineti daughter of MereTahei Hepeta and Wineti Kanawa. MereTahei Hepeta was the daughter of Hepeta Te Taiwhakaripi (brother of Chief Te Hura Te Taiwhakaripi of Te rangihouhiri ll). MereTahei Hepeta married Wineti Kanawa. Hepeta married Hinerori Hetaraka of Te Rangihouhiri ll. Both brothers along with Te Hura's son Te Aka-o-tau, were wrongfully accused for the murder of James Matauranui Fulloon and along with 30 more Chiefs, incarcerated in Mt Eden prison. The Crown appointed George Grey as their Govenor in Aotearoa. Grey would continue with the Crown's agenda of "stealing" Maori lands and titles and claiming Aotearoa for the British Crown and displace many Maori across Aotearoa.

The Crown confiscated approximately 245,000 acres of land from Ngāti Awa. It would take 140 years to publicly admit their wrongdoing and apologise, particularly to Te Hura and his hapu. Approximately 77,000 acres were eventually returned to Ngāti Awa through the compensation process.Ngāti Awa's land have been returned to the people with little compensation. Te Hura chose to lead Ngāti Awa into a war of sovereignty. The stigma of the defeat in that war remained with Ngāti Awa for over 100 years, with devastating consequences for Te Hura and his hapu.

My research is ongoing and continually updated and traces back to Awanuiarangi (Aotearoa NZ), Clement or "Klemmi" 1540 (Denmark) and Joseph Simpson and Anne Simpson born Green 1765 (Scotland and England).

Hi Max

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

Hi Max, I noticed you uploaded a GEDCOM. Our process here is a little different than what you might find on other sites because of our goal of growing one worldwide tree with a single profile for each individual. Here's a link to a great step-by-step of the process including screenshots that you might find helpful. You might also want to check out our Before You Import a GEDCOM help page. Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
Thank you, for volunteering to help grow our worldwide family tree.

Our Honor Code, G2G message forum, help pages, search features, and many other useful links can be accessed from the menus on the upper right corner of most pages. VERY IMPORTANT: The more documents, sources, dates, and locations you provide on the profiles you create, the stronger your branches and our mutual global tree will be. If you don't know the correct date, please estimate using before or after. Our mission is to build a global tree with just one profile per person, so please try very hard not to add any duplicates to our shared tree. Hope you enjoy WikiTree! Donna

Hi I'm Max Simpson, I am researching my genealogy from New Zealand, Denmark and Scotland. The surnames I am researching are Simpson, Jensen, Sørensen, Taiwhakaripi, Pedersen, Simonsen. The danish names are mainly from the Furreby Hjørring District, Scots from Coupar Angus, Methven Perthshire and Maori from the Bay of Plenty region.

Thanks
