Biography

Margaret Simpson's birth and baptism have not been ascertained. Her baptism is not recorded in the Baptismal Registers of any Church of Scotland parish in Caithness-shire. it is conjectured that she was born before 1749 (assuming that she had reached 18 years by the time of her first child in 1867).

Margaret married William Matheson (aka Mathieson, Mathison, Mathewson, Mathiesson) probably before 1767.

Robert Mathiesson (baptized 24 Sep 1788) is conjectured to have William and Margaret Simpson as his parents, however, his mother's first name is recorded as Mary. This may be a transcription error for Margaret, or may represent a different mother actually named Mary. His mother is therefore flagged a uncertain.
