Rachel (Simpson) Robinson was born in Appalachia, in North Carolina. See Appalachia Project.
Rachel Simpson was born in 1749 in Rowan, North Carolina to parents William Simpson II and Avarilla Perkins.
Marriage
Rachel married twice:
Isaac Robinson in 1769 in North Carolina.[1] Need proof. Children: John SimpsonRobinson Mary, Isaac. Robinson
Samuel Hamby in 1774 in Wilkes, North Carolina. Children: John Simpson, Reuben Henry, Harvey John, Henry, Ezekiel, Eli William, Wiley, Needham Freeman (Edom). Should be John Hamby? Is there any proof of the children?

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Rachel by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Rachel:
William A. Day, who wrote a one-page history of the Isaac Robinson family, was the great grandson of Rachel Simpson. Day's mother was Sarah Robinson the ninth child of John Simpson and Jane Clark Robinson. Sarah married Moses Osborne Day. William or "Uncle Billy" also wrote a fine regimental history of the North Carolina 49th Infantry Regiment that is a must read for any fan of Civil War history. He came back to Catawba County, where most of the Robinsons settled and remained going back to Isaac Robinson Senior and are there to this day. William Day does not mention a second marriage to a Hamby, much less a move to Tennesee. I think we are looking at two different Rachel Simpsons. John Simpson and Jane Clark Robinson are buried at Rehobeth Methodist in Terrell, North Carolina next to their sixth child Isaac Osborne Robinson. Feel free to contact me.
It may be possible that there are two Rachel Simpsons. Apparently some evidence exists that one Rachel Simpson married Samuel Hamby. This Rachel was apparently married Issac Robinson earlier. If this is correct' the "other" Rachel Simpson married John Hamby. Can anyone provide evidence of the Issac Robinson and Samuel Hamby marriages?

3. I have the Robinsons book done by the Historical Society by Beatty, Beatty and Drum. Isaac and wife are mentioned. No Hamby’s are discussed.
