Biography

Thomas Simpson is the son of John Simpson who fought at the Battle of the Boyne (Scotland) them immigrated to Ireland. The identity of Thomas's mother has not ben proven. It has been suggested that Thomas was born in Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland but to my knowledge this has not been proven. It is known that Thomas, along with his only wife Jean, immigrated to America about 1720 with seven children. Nathaniel and Elizabeth, who was married to a William Harper, stayed behind. The other children I've identified so far are

Memorial Location

Thomas is buried in Old Paxtang Graveyard. Find A Grave: Memorial #52717409 describes Thomas Simpson (1683-25 Mar 1761)'s burial as Paxton Presbyterian Churchyard, Paxtang, Lancaster, Pennsylvania - although this just may be the site of a memorial. No indication of exact date sourcing is provided.

I removed Mary Elder as a daughter of this Thomas Simpson. Mary Simpson was the daughter of Thomas Simpson b. abt 1704 and his wife Sarah, 1709-1761. Mary Simpson married Rev. John Elder 5 Nov 1751 • Paxtang and Derry, Pennsylvania Churches. (Pennsylvania Archives, series 2, vol. VIII, p. 783).
The information about a second wife published in the book Early records of Simpson families in Scotland, North Ireland, and eastern United States: with a history of the family of the compiler, Helen A Simpson, and including genealogies of allied families of Hout, Stringer, Potts and Dawson has confused this Thomas Simpson with another Thomas Simpson in the same line. This Thomas Simpson was only married once.
