Lucy graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1942 and went on to work at Borg Warner in the office for several years before working as the internal accountant for Attlin Construction Company.

She was a longtime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Lucy was a published poet and a distinguished member of the International Society of Poets.

Survivors include her children, Stephen D. Hiatt (wife, Margaret), Carolyn Sue Bowers (husband, Tom), and Marianne Lorton (husband, Donald); also surviving are seven grandchildren; Jeffrey Hiatt, David Hiatt (wife, Kim), Danielle Cox (husband, James), Heather Holaday (husband, Ben), Brandon Bowers (wife, Carlee), Matthew Lorton, and Melanie Lorton; and ten great-grandchildren, Sydney and Gwen Cox, Ethan, Evan, Logan, and Max Hiatt, Lucy and Jack Holaday, Lucas and Nathan Bowers.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-three years, Donald L. Hiatt in 2000; her sister, Lenora Bird; and her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2016 in St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Father David Hellmann officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel.
