Biography

A. E. (Epps) Tucker was born about 1853 (1852-1854) in Alabama, married Mary Elizabeth Sims about 1870. He was a blacksmith, brick mason, etc. and likely active in politics. The 1910 Census stated they has been married 40 years, had 9 children with 8 still alive in 1910. This indicated a marriage year of 1870 and there is a marriage license as proof. On their marriage license he is Eppsey Tucker.

Mary Elizabeth was enumerated in the 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920, and 1930 Census as Mary Elizabeth Tucker. She is the sister of Charles William Hampton "Hamp" Sims and is William Marion "Mate" Sims' Aunt. Mate Sims is the eldest son of "Hamp" Sims.

In the 1900 Census, Mate Sims is in the Tucker household and is enumerated as Mary Elizabeth Tucker's nephew. In addition, surviving documents indicate a continuing relationship between A. E. Tucker and both Francis Marion Sims and his son, "Hamp" Sims. A. E. was a witness for Marion Sim's Confederate Pension Application and the Elections Registrar for Hamp Sims.

The Tucker family seems to have been leaders in and around Chambers County, AL. Both Epp's grandfather and great grandfather were physicians in that part of Alabama.

A. E. might stand for Adongie Epson, but this is based solely on the spelling in various censuses. He died 4 July 1915 and is buried in Randolph County, Alabama.
