Joseph Simms was likely born in Virginia, perhaps Nansemond or Isle of Wight, and he married Sarah.
In 1732, Joseph purchased 525 acres of land in Edgecombe Precinct, on the South side of Morratuck River and North side of Elk Marsh[1]. And in 1739, Joseph and Sarah Sims sell the said 525 acres[2].
Joseph Simms died intestate during 1750 (Granville, NC)[3], and his son Benjamin Simms was granted administration of his estate. At the time of his death, he left the following children: Benjamin, Molly, Winny, Patience, Rachel, Sarah, Kesiah, Christian and Joseph.
According to the Estate papers, Joseph Simms was titled "Capt," The executor for the Estate was Benjamin, the son of Joseph and a couple of petitions were received by the Court, addressing Benjamin Simms on the division of the Estates assets.
One of the petitions was from Thomas Brogden and Patience his wife. Patience being the daughter of the deceased, Joseph Simms. The other by Thomas Thornton who intermarried with Christian Simms, also a daughter of the deceased.
The wife and widow of Joseph Sims, Sarah, made her will on the 20th of June 1770, in Johnston County, North Carolina and it was proved May 1771[4].
