Biography

James Henry Sims was born September 24, 1826 in Monroe County, Ohio, United States. James Sims was the son of William Dickerson Sims and Keziah Hutchinson Sims. James Sims had multiple marriages and numerous children.

On July 30, 1849, James, age 23, married Myriam Robinson (1829-1870), age 21, in Crawford, Ohio.[1]

In 1850, James, 24, and wife Myra, age 22, are residing in Auburn, Crawford County, Ohio. He is a laborer.[2]

By the 1860 census, James Sims, 33, is living in with seven children in Auburn. His occupation is a ditcher. The nearest post office is in Wellersville.[3]

He had the following children:

James Sims, 36, registered for the U.S., Civil War draft in June of 1863, in Auburn, Crawford County, Ohio.[4]

Myriam Robinson Sims passed away on February 16, 1870, leaving James a widower.

In 1870, James, 43, is living with his children Mary J., 18, William. 17, and James, 14, in Wilshire, Ohio. He is listed as a farmer with a personal estate of $1,350 and real estate value of $2,000.[5]

On July 24, 1870, James Sims married Margaret Chilcoat Counterman [6] (the widow of John Counterman who passed in 1869) in Van Wert County, Ohio, USA. She had two children: Samuel L Counterman and Alexander Counterman

He had the following children:

  • Almyra Sims, 1875-1956, she married Hunt
  • Charlotte "Lottie: Sims, 1877-, she married Johnson

The 1880 cense places James, 53, and his wife Margaret, 34, and eight children in Wilshire, Ohio. He states his occupation as lawyer.[7]

Wife Margaret Sims, age 40, passed away on November 1, 1886 in WIllshire, Van Wert, Ohio leaving his a widower.

On March 1,1898, James Sims married Mary S. Harrellson in Santa Rosa County, Florida.[8] [9]

He had the following children:

  • Maudie Sims, 1900-1978, married Ates
  • Edith Sims, 1900-

As recorded in the 1900 census, James was 73 years old and living with his wife Mary, age 26, and daughters; Edith and Mable Sims, both under one year of age. He lists his occupation as meat and gardening.[10]

James H. Sims passed away April 28, 1901 in Milton, Santa Rosa, Florida. [11]
