Biography

John (Sinclair) Sinclair Third Earl of Caithness is a member of Clan Sinclair.

John was born in 1495 in Branxton, Northumberland, England. He was the son of William (Sinclair) Sinclair Second Earl of Caithness and Margaret (Keith) Keith Countess of Caithness.

John's father William died in battle in 1513, and John had sasine of the earldom on November 25, 1613. John was killed on the field at Somersdale on May 18, 1529.

He married before 1527 Margaret Sutherland, daughter of William Sutherland of Duffus. They had Three children: William, George and Janet. John also had an illegitimate son, David.[1]

John died on 18 May 1529 in Somersdale, Stenness, Orkney Islands, Scotland, trying to recover the Orkney Islands. [2][3][4]

Sinclair-1250 and Sinclair-141 appear to represent the same person because: same name, father died in 1513 at Flodden Field. Not 2 Johns, Probably Sinclair-1250 does not belong in this family. Sinclair-141 did die in Orkneys in 1529.
