Biography

This profile is part of the Skinner Name Study.

Haggai Skinner, born in 1750 in New York. His parents were Joseph Skinner and Martha Kinne, [1] [2]

Haggai Skinner (1759-1823) married Elizabeth Westbrook and had eight children, During the American Revolution he was loyal to the British cause for which he was long imprisoned.

He moved to Canada after the Revolutionary war with his wife and children and settled in the Niagara region. Two of his brothers Benjamin and Timothy and his sister Martha and their families also came to this area around the same time. After his first wife died, He married Elizabeth Shainbolt in1812.

Haggai Skinner was listed as a United Empire Loyalist and as such was eligeble for land grants. He recieived over 600 acres. [3]

Haggai was in Capt. Kirby's company of Lincoln militia, fell into hands of the enemy, was imprisoned at Greenbush for six months and returned to Canada landing at Sugsrloaf on the night of the battle of Lundy's Lane
