John Philander Slade was born on July 14, 1832 in Stockbridge, Vermont[1]. He was the son of John Slade and Betsey Holden.
John enlisted in the 55th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment in September, 1861, and was discharged in March, 1862[2], and his widow Betsey was listed in the 1890 United State Census of Union Veterans and Widows.
J.P., B.A., M.J., and C. Slade were listed as living in Palmyra, Nebraska during the 1870 United States Census[3].
He passed away on August 9, 1889.
