Biography

Benjamin was born in 1723 in [Sladesville], Hyde County, North Carolina.. He was the son of John Slade and Abigail Hodges.

In December 1743 he was granted by his father, in his father's Will, the land that John Slade Sr., had bought from John Smith Cooper. He was given stock marks also, which were "a crop and an under bit and one slit in the right ear".

In about 1758 Benjamin married Ann Lott in Hyde County, North Carolina. They raised their children there and spent the rest of their lives there. Their children were David Lott, Furnifold, Stephen, Nathanial "Nathen", and Lydia. If Lydia was the last born child, she was born in 1772 after her father passed away.

Benjamin was a Planter in Hyde County, North Carolina. Either his Uncle Benjamin or himself was mentioned in the following transaction: On October 2, 1756 "Willoughby Addams, deceased of Hyde County, to Benjamin Slade, a Planter of Hyde County, 9 pounds pc 50 acres, in Hyde County East side of Machapungo River; beginning at river swamp, bending along trie line dividing 100 acres between Willoughby Addams and Joseph Cox, Slade's part was beginning head line at the end of the marked tries, to the river swamp, to the corner mulberry, to the first marked black gum". This was found in eastcarolinaroots(since 2007)(some deed books from hyde county, north Carolina).

In Ben's June 1772 Will, he left inheritance to David Lott Slade, Nathen Slade, Furnifold Slade, his sons; and to his nephews, Samuel and Enoch, his brother John's children. Witnesses were James Rawlins, William Slade, and Jesse Slade.

Notes listed on Families of Coastal North Carolina: "an inventory of the goods and chattles of Ben Slade, deceased, was exhibited into June court 1772 on oath of Dorcas Slade, executrix".

He passed away in June 1772, and after November 27, 1771, which was the day he wrote his last will and testament. He was buried in Hyde County, North Carolina.
