Biography

Adolphus Hulme Slade was born in Battersea, Surrey, on 11 June 1845, and christened in Battersea on 5 July^[1]. He was the son of Adolphus Slade and Charlotte Hulme.

At the time of the 1851 England and Wales Census, Adolphuse Slade, his wife Charlotte, and their children Adolphus and Fanny were listed as living in Chislehurst, Kent, along with Adolphus' sister Catherine Slade^[2].

At the time of the 1861 England and Wales Census, Adolphus F., Charlotte A., Adolphus H., Fanny, Florence, Anny, Ernest, Walter, and Sidney Slade were listed as living in Chislehurst, Kent, along with Adolphus' sister Ann C. Slade, sisters-in-law Rosette A. Slade and Mary J. Slade, and five servants^[3].

At the time of the 1871 England and Wales Census, Adolphus F, Charlotte A, Adolphus H, Fanny, Florence, Amelia, Edmund, Ernest, Laura, and Alice Slade were listed as living in Chislehurst, along with Adolphus' sister Ann C Slade, niece Mary Ann Slade, and five servants^[4]. At the time of the census, Adolphus' occupation was listed as "Stock Market".

Adolphus married Fanny Christy. Their marriage was registered in Tunbridge, Kent in the first quarter of 1877^[5].

Adolphus married Mary Asterley. Their marriage was registered in Leeds, Yorkshire in the fourth quarter of 1887^[6].

At the time of the 1891 England and Wales Census, Adolphus H, Mary Annie, and Mabel Asterley (misrecorded as "Mary Astuly") Slade were listed as living in Hastings, Sussex, along with Mary's mother, May Annie Asterley (misrecorded as "Astuly"), and a servant^[7][8]. At the time of the census, Adolphus' occupation was listed as "Dealer in Stocks and Shares".

Adolphus died on 18 July 1924. His death was registered in Tonbridge, Kent in the third quarter of 1924^[9].
