Biography

Alice Slater was born in 1844 in Saddleworth, Yorkshire, England, the daughter of Moses Slater and Betty Bradbury. ^[1]

She was baptised on 22 December 1844 in Saddleworth. ^[2]

She married Samuel Halkyard in 1870. Their marriage was registered in Saddleworth. ^[3]

The couple had two daughters and a son.

The daughters worked in the cotton mills and both Samuel and James as book keepers. ^[4]

They moved to 6 Burton St. in Lees, Lancashire and remained there for many years.^[5]

Alice died and was buried on the 12 Oct 1905^[6] and Samuel was buried the 27 Aug in 1909.^{[7] [8]}

All the children, Florence, Helene and James, continued to live in the house^[9] until after James married in 1915 ^[10]and eventually left this house.

Both girls lived together in this house at 6 Burton St., Lees, until Florence died in Aug ^[11]and then Helene died in September ^[12]of 1951.
