Biography

Giles Slocum was born the son of Ebenezer Slocum and Mary Thurston in Jamestown Township, Rhode Island, the 19th day of the Twelfth month, 1695. Giles married Mary Manchester on 26 Jan 1720 and settled in Warwick Township, Rhode Island. He was admitted freeman there in the year 1723.

Giles was a farmer and a dealer in land, He was also a slaveholder, giving his daughter, Desire, at the time of her marriage, a negro woman, named Clara.

When Giles died in Warwick on 26 March, 1750, his estate was appraised at 1890 pounds, 14s, 11d. His wife, Mary, died 2 Jan 1763.

They had four children: Desire (b. 1720), Mary (b. 1722), Ebenezer (b. 1724), and Mercy (b. 1726).

His will is dated 14 October 1749 with a codicil dated 2 March 1749/50 and proved on 28 April 1750 in Warwick, Rhode Island.[1]

His date of death, 26 March 1749/50 is recorded in the heading of his inventory which was taken on 28 April 1750.[1]
