Note H00055William was born in 1885 and married Catherine Moffatt in 1906. They had three children, Alma Catherine, and two sons, John and William. In August 1915 William enrolled in the Australian Armed forces and was sent to France. He fought in the trenches in France and was killed at the battle of the Somme coming out of the trenches to attack during the Battle of Mouquet Farm in August 1916.
Aged 21 when married in St. Stephen's Cathedral, Brisbane.

Information from Australian Army records Private William Small - No 3849 - enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force at Brisbane, Queensland on 16 August 1915.
Stated on enlistmant that he was born at Parramatta N.S.W. and that he was 30 and 5/12 years of age. He served overseas in the Middle East and France with the 15th Australian Infantry Battalion. KIlled in action in France on 9th August 1916. Commemorated at the Villers Bretonneux Memorial to the Missing France. Medals issued - British War Medal - Victory Medal.
