She lived in Willis, Virginia (Floyd County) in the Indiam Valley area her entire life.. Cate is buried at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Willis, Floyd County, Virginia.
Cate was a strong and kind woman who managed both a farm with huge gardens that she tended lovingly and expertly, and who cared for her largely bed-bound husband even in her older years. Her son Pierce Weeks lived in nearby town of Floyd and helped in the farm and with chores - also possibly with finances.
As a young child, Cate's mother was the terrified victim of Union troops who savagely broke into her family homestead and stole their food, livestock and belongings. Forever after, Cate had a fear and loathing of the "Northern aggresors" from the War Between the States and these feelings were imparted to her daughter Tennie - my grandmother - who disdained the "Yankees" for the remainder of her days.
