Gertrude Smith, the daughter of farmer Sylvester Smith and school teacher Damaris McGee, lived in Hamilton, Ontario, most of her life, where she worked at the Hamilton Post Office.[1]
As her 100th birthday approached, she remembered her childhood spent with her five siblings on her parents' farm "on the mountain above Winona." She attributed her longevity to her mother and her mother's motto, "You must have stamina!"[2]
