C.B. Smith was a well-known Canadian hydroelectric and railway engineer.
After graduating from McGill University in engineering, he worked with various railway companies before being appointed assistant professor of civil engineering at McGill. In 1899 he became assistant engineer of the city of Toronto. After two years, he left that position and became involved in hydro-electric work. He was constructing engineer of the Canadian Niagara Power Company from 1901 to 1905. Until his death of cancer in 1912, he served on various commissions and was a consulting engineer on numerous projects. He was also the author of Railway Engineering, a textbook.[1]
