Biography

When Emma Smith was born on October 19, 1864, in Logan, Utah, her father, Thomas Smith, was 35 and her mother, Margaret Gurney, was 34. She married John Lyman Ballif on October 20, 1886, in her hometown. She had three children by the time she was 27. Her husband John Lyman passed away on December 6, 1941, in Logan, Utah, at the age of 77. They had been married 55 years. She died on April 3, 1942, in Logan, Utah, at the age of 77, and was buried there.

Obituary

LOGAN — Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Smith Ballif, 77, who died Friday evening of a heart ailment, will be conducted Monday at 1 p. m. in the Logan Fourth L D S Ward Chapel by Newell O. Daines, bishop of the Logan Fifth L D S Ward.

Born in Logan, Mrs. Ballf was married in 1886 to John L. Balif, who died last December. She was a soloist in the Logan L D S Temple for many years until her health failed.

She was a member of the Fremont L D S Relief Society Board for many years and was a Relief Society counselor in the Rexburg, Idaho Second LDS Ward. Friends may call Monday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the Lindquist Funeral Home.
