Joseph married Mary Smith in Litchfield May 23, 1817. Officiant was Rev. Lyman Beecher [1].
She is Mary Hoyt in many trees based on the DAR record of Anna Miranda (Tryon) Whittlesey. We can find no evidence for that name. The marriage record indicates Smith. The couple named their first son John Smith Tryon, and Joseph's last will and testament was witnessed by an Ira Smith, who was perhaps a brother-in-law. Both point to wife Mary's name being Smith, not Hoyt. It is possible she was married to a Smith before since she was about 26 when she married Joseph but no record has been found.
