Ephraim Smith was born in England.
Ephraim Smith came free to the Colony of New South Wales (1788-1900)

Ephraim Smith was born on 7 July 1820 and christened on 20 August 1820 in the St. Nicholas church, Sandhurst, Cranbrook District, Kent, England [1][2] and his younger brother was John Smith.

His father John had died on 10 December 1825.

His mother married for a second time William Vidler, a widower, on January 15, 1832.

Ephraim migrated to Australia with his mother Mary and stepfather William Vidler, his younger brother John, a step-sister Sarah Ann Vidler, and four of William's son's and families, arriving in Sydney on 6 November 1838, It was a 'horror' trip with a number of the Vidler grandchildren deaths at sea and upon arrival, the family was placed in quarantine [3] [4].

The family settled at Jamberoo, in the Illawarra, on the New South Wales South Coast.

Ephraim married Eliza Ann Fletcher in about 1846 [5] and their daughter Frances Elizabeth (Smith) Hughan was born on 29 July 1847.

Ephraim died on 26 August 1885, aged 65 years, at Bourke, New South Wales, Australia [6] and was buried in the Church of England section of the Bourke General Cemetery, Bourke Shire, New South Wales, Australia [7][8].

The Northiam is 100% wrong as it clearly shows Sandhurst on the actual register !!!.

In 1863 he is a farmer then in 1885 he has had probably an accident leaving him paralyzed and a labourer.
