First husband was George C. Stephenson. Had three Children.

  • Lucy married Frank H. Smith in 1873. He had been born in October of 1847 in Michigan. He was about 25 years old and she was about 18. Family records, which have not yet been confirmed genealogically, state that their children were as follows:

1. Clara Belle Smith. Born circa 1876 in California. 2. Ella Lenore Smith. Born circa 1879/1880 in Livermore, California. 3. James E. Smith. Born February 3, 1884 in California.

In 1880, Frank and Lucy lived in Livermore, California. In 1900, Frank and Lucy lived in Tuolumne County, California. Frank was a shoemaker. By 1900, Lucy’s daughter Ella had already married George C. Stephenson, a teamster. They had the following children:

1. Thelma L. Stephenson. Born circa 1903. 2. Vivian H. Stephenson. Born circa 1905. 3. Vera L. Stephenson. Born circa 1910.

Lucy's husband died before the 1910 census. By that year, she was a widow and was living with her daughter Ella in Fresno, CA.

In 1920, Lucy was still living with daughter Ella Lenore. Ella had remarried. Her new husband was Leonard V. Dodge. Leonard was a transfer man. Ella was a sales lady in a department store. Lucy was watching her grandchildren and keeping house.

At the time Lucy died, her son James was living in Pittsburg, California. She died on February 17, 1940 while living in El Sobrante (Contra Costa County, California). She was 84 years old and the cause of death was myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle). She was buried in the nearby Sunset View Cemetery.
