James Smith was born on September 10, 1645, Newbury, Essex, Massachusetts[1].

James married first Sarah Coker, daughter of Robert & Catherine (Unknown) Coker, on 26 Jul 1667 at Newbury, Essex, MA Bay - parents of James II, Thomas & Hannah Smith

After the death of Sarah, he married Margaret Phillips, daughter of Walter & Margaret (Ely) Phillips, about 1675 at Salem, Essex, MA Bay - their children were Samuel, Elizabeth, Jacob, Benjamin, Sarah & Walter Smith

Note

James, Lt., 'cast on shore at Capebratoon coming fro Canada and all Lost.' Dec. 1, 1690.
