Biography

Frances Smith was born in 1657 in Queen Anne, Prince George's, Maryland, United States. She was the daughter of Joseph Smith (1637-) and Elizabeth (Mellows) Smith (1637-1681).

Frances married Thomas Duckett Wells (1653-1718) when she was 21 years old, and he was 23 in 1678 in Queen Annes Town, Prince Georges, Maryland, USA. Thomas the son of Thomas Wells (1619-1685) and Elizabeth Duckett (1619-1681).

Thomas and Frances Wells were the parents of the following known children: Thomas, Nathan, George, Frances, Mary, Robert, Joseph, Sarah and Elizabeth. Joseph and Sarah were twins.

Frances died on 31 Oct 1733 in Queen Anne's Parish, Prince Georges County, Maryland, USA. She was 76 years old.

Thomas Well's Will

In his will probated Jan. 5, 1718/19, he gives his land for life to his wife, Frances. He then divided it amongst 4 sons; Thomas, Nathan, Robert and Joseph. He gave son George five shillings and slaves for his four daughters. (C-575) The low amount of money he gave to his son George could be explained by his son's cohabitation with his married neighbor, Susannah Swanson Ward according to Queen Anne's Vestry Minutes, Apr. 12, 1719. George and Susannah were married at Queen Annes on June 16, 1725. (C-575, p.52).[8][9][10][11]

Thanks, Mark, but I'm not seeing anything to connect them other than both named Smith, both were in Maryland, and the timeline makes it conceivable. A different set of parents are named in the bio section of this profile, but no solid source (or any source) for that is provided, either.

Again, thanks for the tip, but I think we'll need something more solid to establish any parents for her.
