"Tangr this twentie-sixth Day of Nouembr 1675.
This day beeing fryday I William Smith Borne in Newton neare Higham ferris in Northampton was married to Martha Tunstall of Putney in the Countie of Surrie, By Docctr William Turrner in the Protestant Church in Tanger."
They had thirteen children. No evidence exists of a 14th child although one is mentioned in a later family who is said to have died unmarried in 1742. Only 13 children are mentioned in Col. Smith's journal or in his or his wife's wills.

A curious item - Capt Christoper Billop was godfather 9 June 1686 in Yanghall, Ireland, of Hibernie Smith, 4th daughter of Tangier Smith... next entry Hibernie died at sea August 1686. By 8 Dec 1686 the Smith family was in New York.
