Biography

Joseph Smith, second son and third child of Asael and Mary Duty Smith, was born July 12, 1771, at Topsfield, Essex Co., Massachusetts. He married Jan. 24, 1796 Lucy Mack, daughter of Solomon Mack.

Lucy Mack was born July 8, 1776, at Gilsum, Cheshire Co., N. H., and died May 5, 1855.[1]

Joseph died Sept. 14, 1840, at Nauvoo, Illinois and was buried at Smith Family Cemetery, Nauvoo. His memorial has photos, biography and links to many family members.

  4. Sophronia. Born May 16, 1803, at Tunbridge, Orange Co., Vermont. Married Calvin Stoddard.[19] Born May 17, 1803, in Tunbridge, Vermont; died 28 Oct 1876 in Colchester, Illinois; m. (1)Calvin W. Stoddard & (2) William McCleary.[16]
  5. Joseph. Born Dec. 23, 1805, at Sharon, Windsor Co., Vermont;[20] martyred 27 June 1844, in Carthage, Illinois; m. Emma Hale.[16]
  6. Samuel Harrison. Born March 13, 1808, at Tunbridge, Windsor Co., Vermont;[21] died 30 July 1844 in Nauvoo, Illinois; married (1) Mary Bailey and then (2) Levira Clark.[16]
  7. Ephraim. Born March 13, 1810, at Royalton, Windsor Co., Vermont. Died March 24, 1810.[22] Born and died March 13, 1810.[16]
  8. William. Born March 13, 1811, at Royalton, Windsor Co., Vermont.[23] He died Nov. 13, 1893 in Osterdock, Iowa; married (1) Caroline A Grant (2) Roxie R Grant, (3)Eliza E. Sanborn, (4) Rosella Goyette[16]
  9. Catharine. Born July 8, 1812, at Lebanon, N. H. Married Wilkins Jenkins Salisbury.[24] Katherine died 1 Feb 1900 in Fountain Green, Illinois. She married (1) Wilkins J. Salisbury (2) Joseph Younger.[16]
  10. Don Carlos. Born March 25. 1816, at Palmyra, N. Y.[25] Born in Norwich, Vermont; died 7 Aug, 1841 in Nauvoo, Illinois; m. Agnes Moultin Coolbrith.[16]
  11. Lucy. Born July 18, 1821. Married Arthur Milliken.[26] Born in Manchester Township, New York; died 9 Dec 1882, in Colchester, Illinois; married Arthur Millikin.[16]
