Mary (Smith) Bridges was a Mississippian.

Mary Margaret Smith was born on October 28, 1810 in Holmesville, Pike, Mississippi.^[1] Her parents were John Smith and Elizabeth Love. She married Hugh F. Bridges in 1828. Together they had the following children:^[2]

1. Ann, b. 12-16-1829, d. 7-4-1834.
2. Martha, b. 9-8-1831, m. 12-9-1847, Doctor J. B. Catching. P. O., Georgetown, Copiah Co., Miss.
3. James, b. 7-8-1843, m. 12-5-1854, Palmyra Thompson. James d. 2-27-1855. No children.
4. Louisa, b. 9-3-1845, d. in 1849.
5. Walter L., b. 1-14-1837. He was a graduate of the Medical College, La. ; died 7-4-1862, at Charlottesville, Va., while serving as assistant surgeon in the 11th Miss. Regiment, Confederate Army. Interred in the Masonic Cemetery, Charlottesville, Va. He never married.
6. Sarah, b. 1-8-1840, d. 9- -1844.
7. Hugh Q., b. 10-31-1842, m. 12-20-1866, Eliza McHaynes, of Clinton, La. Hugh Q. served in Co. A., 11th Miss. Volunteers, C. S. A., was wounded in Gettysburg, Pa., in 1863, and discharged. He was afterwards commissioned as 1st Lieutenant, and assigned to duty on Brigadier General George B. Hodges' Staff, Dept. of the Southwest, where he remained until the close of the war. He was a prominent lawyer. Residence, Kansas City, Mo.
8. Robert S., b. 1-17-1845, m. 1-10-1872, Ida Q. Wallace. He was a farmer. P. O., McComb, Pike Co., Miss.
9. Richard C., b. 7-16-1848, d. 10-14-1870.
10. Mary, b. 1-6-1851, d. 10-16-1861.
