Death

Disputed mother of Simon Hoyt, immigrant to Stamford, Connecticut

In 1903, Emily Roebling in the footnotes of The Journal of the Reverend Silas Constant ..., incorrectly listed a family for Simon Hoyt, born 20 Jan 1590 in Dorchester, England. Parents: John and Ruth Hoyt. Marriage: Deborah Stowers, 2 Dec. 1612 in Upway. Children: John, b. 12 March 1614; Walter b. 9 Jun 1616; Thomas b 20 Sept 1618; Deborah b. 9 Aug. 1620, d. 1628; Nicholas b. 10 Nov 1622; Ruth, b 2 Jan 1625, d. 1627.[1]

Donald Lines Jacobus and John Insley Coddington questioned this data,[2] and research conducted in 1995 found no such records in Upway. See the work of Doug Sinclair, citing Robin Bush for more information.[3]

Therefore, Simon Hoyt has been detached as son.

It seems strange that Ruth's sister is also listed as Ruth. Can you explain the discrepancy?

Smith-68655 and Smith-2344 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles need merging as they have same father and husband

According to the only sources listed on this profile, Ruth (Smith) Hoyt, Smith-2344, was born in 1562 (not 1542) and John Hoyt (Hoyt - 139) was born in 1558 (not 1545 as his profile says). The sources say they were married in 1589. If this information is correct then Ruth could be the daughter of John Smith (Smith - 3509) born in 1537. While U.S. and International Marriage Records may not be reliable according to WikiTree, it is the only source listed. Without other sources it seems that these are the dates that should be used until something more reliable is posted.
This Ruth (Smith) Hoyt Smith-2344 can not be the daughter of John Smith Smith-3509 Ruth was b. 1542 and Smith-3509 was b 1537

I agree that Hoyt-30 should be removed as the husband of this Ruth (Smith) Hoyt Smith- 2344.

Ruth (Smith) Hoyt Smith-2344 and Ruth (Smith) Hoyt Smith-102422 are both attached to John Smith Smith-3509 as their father. John Smith was born abt 1537. That makes him too young to be the father of Smith-2344 who was born abt 1542. Also Ruth (Smith) Hoyt Smith-102422 appears to be from a different area than that of Smith-3509

Hoyt-30 is already connected to Smith-102422. I believe he should be removed from this profile. Thank you for reviewing

Smith-123710 and Smith-102422 appear to represent the same person because: Same child and dates

Unknown-224394 and Smith-2344 are not ready to be merged because: I don't see enough similarities in the two profiles to justify a merge.

Based on other names I see on this profile, I have changed her CurrentLastName to the one I expect she was using at the time of her death. I could be wrong, so please correct as necessary. This is so we can search for her by her LastNameAtBirth or her CurrentLastName and still find her. If she was married more than once, her other married names are in the OtherLastNames field and can also be searched. Ex: Abigail Amelia Betts formerly Smith aka Adams
