The family name of Jewitt appears to have been changed to Smith at some time, why and when are uncertain. Census records used Smith, births, baptisms and marriages used Jewitt.

Jane Jewitt was born in 1845, the daughter of Matthew Jewitt and Charlotte Brown. [1]
