*Archie Frank Smith was married twice. The first wife was "said" tobe, and sometimes denied to be, a Cherokee Indian. Thefirstinformation I received stated that the name was Shifflett. I checked the Indian Rolls in Cherokee, South Carolina, and found no one by thatnamelisted. Then I talked to CorineMiller [daughter by 2nd wife], and she said that she never heard of her Dad being married to an Indian. She also told me the name of her Dad's 1st wife. I have listed that name in this Family Tree. I believe it to be the correct one.But I have not checked the Indian Roll to see if it is listed. I am not sure Mrs. Miller would know about it, as it was a thing to be ashamed of in those days. I do not believe he would have told his new family about his questionable past. As far as I know, his children [all 8] from his 1st marriage are now dead. I believe a couple of his children [13 in all!] from his 2nd marriage may still be alive in 1999. He had a total of 21 children from both marriages!
*Information came from Corine Smith Miller, of Walhalla, South Carolina; and Lucille Smith Gentry Lee O'Brian Beasley of Homestead, Florida.
*LDS Film # 382524 shows both marriage records
