Biography

Franklin was born in 1846 in Butler County, Ohio, to Andrew J. and Eleanor Smith.

In 1859, he removed with his parents, Andrew J., and Eleanor Smith, to Randolph county, Indiana, which was his home till he moved to Cass county.

Franklin settled in 1860, on the southwest quarter of section 5 of Pymosa township. He purchased at that time, eighty acres of unimproved land. By 1884 he had two hundred and twenty-six acres, under good cultivation and well improved.

During the war of the rebellion Mr. Smith was in the employ of the government at Hamilton, Ohio. He was married in Indiana, to Mary E. Butler, daughter of Edward Butler, now a resident of this township. They have two children — Mary Eleanor and Daisy A. Mr. Smith is a Republican, politically.

He died on April 26, 1935 in Atlantic, Cass County, Iowa.

Living with him is his wife, Mary E., 50, and their daughter, Jessie B., 11. Also living with the family is Mary's father, Edward Butler (indexed by Ancestry as Butter), 84.[1]

April 26, 1935 - Death - Atlantic, Cass County, Iowa.
