Synopsis

From the forthcoming book The Descendants of Benjamin Smith and Sarah Paul of Dighton, Massachusetts and Westminster, Vermont:

Frank Malcolm Smith, son of Daniel Benjamin and Jane Eliza (Simmons) Smith, was born 18 March 1870[1] in Novi Township, Oakland County, Michigan; died of pulmonary tuberculosis, 13 January 1902[2] in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona. He married, 3 December 1896[3] at the residence of the bride, New York City, New York County, New York, Charlotte M. Parry, daughter of Henry and Elise (Mercier) Parry. Charlotte was born 27 January 1873[4] in Paterson, Passaic County, New Jersey; died of cerebral thrombosis, 2 November 1959[5] at the home of her daughter, 415 Hillsboro Street, Chapel Hill, Orange County, North Carolina. After Frank’s death, Charlotte married, second, circa 1909, Joshua Lowe, son of Herman and Sarah (Hirsch) Lowitcki. Joshua was born 23 December 1873[6] in New York City, New York County, New York; died after being struck by a taxi cab, 21 March 1945[7] at the London Clinic, 10 Devonshire Place, London, County Middlesex, England. Charlotte was cremated 4 November 1959[8] at Duke Hospital, Durham, Durham County, North Carolina, and her ashes were buried at Old Chapel Hill Cemetery, Chapel Hill. Frank was buried 20 January 1902[9] at Oakwood Cemetery, Austin, Austin Township, Mower County, Minnesota. Joshua Lowe was cremated 26 March 1945[10] at Golders Green Crematorium, London, County Middlesex, England, and his ashes were scattered on the grounds.

Frank appeared on the 1870[11] census in the household of his parents in Novi Township, Oakland County, Michigan. He appeared on the 1880[12] and 1885[13] censuses in the household of his father in Austin, Austin Township, Mower County, Minnesota. Frank and Charlotte appeared on the 1900[14] census in St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota. After Frank’s death, Charlotte appeared on the 1905[15] census in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.

Well Known Bicycle Dealer
Dies at Phoenix.

Word was received in St. Paul Sunday evening of the death of Frank M. Smith, of this city, at Phoenix, Ariz., from tuberculosis, after an illness lasting two months. Mrs. Smith and their two children left yesterday to take charge of the remains. Mr. Smith was one of the leading bicycle dealers in St. Paul for the last five years, and was prominent in Elk circles. He was very popular and his death will be mourned by his many friends. In the event that the body is brought back to St. Paul for interment, the funeral will be conducted under the auspices of the local lodge of Elks.[16]

FUNERAL OF FRANK M. SMITH
TAKES PLACE TOMORROW.

The funeral of Frank M. Smith, who died Sunday, at Phoenix, Ariz., will take place at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon from Elks' Hall, Lowry Arcade, and will be conducted by the officers of the lodge, the Elkks' [sic] burial service being used. The remains will be taken to Austin, Minn, at 3:55 o'clock for interment and services will be held at the family residence in that city.

Mr. Smith was an old resident of St. Paul and was for several years in the bicycle business here.[17]
