Biography

Mary Smith was born in 1690 on the Glebe (parish lands) of Urney, Strabane Barony, County Tyrone in Ireland.

Before 1729, she had married [[Simonton-31|Theophilus Simonton.

In 1729, Mary's brother, Archibald Smith bequeathed to his sister Mary Simonton: "a 300 acre tract which was formerly James Barr’s … allowing my brother-in-law the aforeseaid Theophilus Simonton the use thereof during his natural life.'

This will also provides information about Mary and Archibald's family. He leaves bequests to a number of Smith "cousins" -- really nieces and nephews, as they seem to be the children of Archibald & Mary's brother, Robert -- who were living in the Glebe of Urney Parish, in Strabane Barony, County Tyrone, Ireland.

Archibald directs executor to "sell property in Somerset county, Maryland called “Begrove” left unto me by my uncle Robt Perrie" -- showing that Mary and Archibald's mother was a Perrie or Perry, although her first name is, as yet, unknown.

Mary's husband, Theophilus was asked to assist the executor of Archibald's estate.

Mary Simonton died in 1767 in Rowan, North Carolina.
