Benjamin Smith was born in 1708 in Providence, Providence, son of Christopher Smith (1675 - 1755) and Mary (Stephens) Smith (1679 - >1758).

Received his father's homestead in Providence by deed, Apr. 3, 1750 (see Austin, p. 379), and also received other land from his father in 1755, recorded in Smithfield, R. I. Perhaps he m. at Providence, June 11, 1730, Mrs.MercyWaterman (Vital Records of Providence, p. 324).
