Beatrice Genievre "Bea" Smith,[1] daughter of Adelbert Smith and Hattie M. (Robinson) Smith, was born on 26 June 1909 in Elkland, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.[2][3][4] at Pennsylvania, USA. In the 1910 census, there is a Harriet Shettler, with a daughter Beatrice working as a servant in the in household of Wellington Blend, in Tuscarora, Steuben, New York. It is not certain that this is the same Hattie and Beatrice.[5] She appeared on the census of 5 Jan. 1920 in the household of her parents, Adelbert Wesley Smith and Harriet Minerva (Robinson) Smith, at 802 John St., Elmira, Chemung Co., New York.[6]
She married Gersham Freeland, son of Myron Freeland and Hettie (VanZile) Freeland[7] on 16 July 1926 at Steuben County, New York. Her father gave permission for the marriage.[3]
She and Gersham appeared on the census of 11 April 1930 in the household of Adelbert Wesley Smith and Harriet Minerva Robinson at Taft Ave., Elkland, Tioga Co., Pennsylvania.[8] On 22 May 1930, Gersham transfered 1/2 acre to Beatrice's father, A. W. Smith, for $1.00 and A. W. Smith transfered 1/2 acre to Beatrice for $1.00 at Nelson, Pennsylvania.[9] She and Gersham appeared on the census of 10 April 1940 in the household of Adelbert and Harriet at North Road, Nelson Township, Tioga Co., Pennsylvania.[10]

Gersham Freeland of Nelson, was arrested by Police Officer Flynn W. Whitehill of Elkland, charges of assault and battery and aggravated assault and battery on, complaint of Beatrice Freeland, the defendants's wife. Taken before Justice of the Peace James Kizer of Elkland, he was held under $1,000 bail, in default of which he was committed to jail.[11]
Beatrice lived in 1995 at Elkland, Tioga Co., Pennsylvania. She died on 12 Sep. 1996[4] in Wellsboro, Tioga County, Pennsylvania, at age 87 and was buried at Highland Cemetery, Elkland, Tioga Co., Pennsylvania. She and Gersham share the same headstone.[12]
