John Smith was born about 1840. John Smith ... [1]
John Smith was born about 1830 in the U. K. Parent's names are John Smith and Maria Waters; they are revealed on the death record of John in 1887.
Calculating his birth year from his age; on Queensland Assisted Shipping Index cannot always be trusted to be correct; however; he appears in 1874 as being 45 years of age; that results in a birth year being 1829.
Married in the U.K. about 1853; that year calculated; and shown on his wife's profile.
John Smith with his wife and the following fourteen; named Smith, are a large family on board; during the voyage of the "Royal Dane" which; arrived in Moreton Bay on 4 May 1874. However, I have only confirmed five on the list of sixteen to be children of John and Elizabeth. A sixth of their children arrived in Cooktown on 12 October 1883 with a wife and child; possibly two children; but they are both named John; and both 3 years of age.
The Fourteen children of unknown parents are:- Thomas 27 years, Charles 24, Emma 25 Walter 25, Sarah 19, Elizabeth 17, Thomas 15, William 14, Emma 9, Sophia 7, James Hy. 5, Joseph 5, Henry 3, Alfred an infant.
The six confirmed children of John and Elizabeth are:- Sarah, William, Emma, Sophia, Joseph and John who arrived in 1883 age 30 years.
Death occurred on 27 March 1887 and he was buried at Toowong cemetery, Brisbane, Queensland.
