Mary Smith was born about 1787. After her marriage to Jesse French on January 24, 1808, she went with her husband and his family to what became Limestone Co., Alabama (then part of the Chickasaw nation). Later the family moved to Jackson County, Alabama. Mary Smith French was a homemaker and mother. She and her husband Jesse had fifteen children: James M., b. April 11, 1808-d. after 1841; Elizabeth, b. May 27, 1810; Sarah, November 3, 1811-April 10, 1814; Nancy, b. March 26, 1813; Benjamin, b. May 7, 1815-d. after 1868; Rebecca, November 1, 1817-d. September 1, 1898; Hartwell, b. May 6, 1819; Mary, b. April 12, 1822; George, b. January 19, 1824-d.February 14, 1824; Washington, b. January 19, 1824-d. February 8, 1824; Martha Jane, b. March 15, 1826-d. after 1870; Jeremiah, b. January 29, 1827-August 9, 1899; Henry T., b. April 3, 1830-d. February 9, 1862; Isabella, b. February 17, 1832-d. after 1860 and Jesse, b. July 24, 1834-d. May 6, 1853. Mary Smith French passed away in Jackson County, Alabama on November 19, 1863. [1]
